WHAT IS A PANORAMA?
Photography has always been an interest of mine, particular panoramic photography. What is a panorama? A panorama is basically comprised of several overlapping photos which are stitched together to create a seamless image. Typically this is done to gain a larger field of view. Taken to the extreme, this can produce spherical photos, where a photographer can capture all of the light passing through a single imaginary point in space.
Unfortunately, people can't see spherical images directly. Our field of vision just isn't that big. One way to see them is to use interactive views, which let you look around in any direction, as if you were standing inside the photograph. Another option is to use one of a myriad of spherical projections which project the sphere onto the plane. This leads to weird and funky distortions in the image, but offers a great deal of artistic freedom in how the the image is presented.
The images in this gallery are all projections of panoramas that I have made. You can find interactive flash versions of these same panoramas in my DeviantArt gallery. Either way, I hope you enjoy these unique images as much as I have producing them.
